May 2026

Time flies when you are having fun… or so they say!  It seems like we were all just at Frisco having fun and here we are just a month away from being back together in Waco for the 150th Conference and Convention. I’m excited to see everyone again as we celebrate a significant milestone of our association.

This last year has definitely been in high gear, with meetings and travel taking a substantial amount of time. It’s been well worth it as I’ve had the privilege of promoting our association and getting to meet and talk to many fine folks that call Texas home. I also had the opportunity to forward our association priorities, aid in planning for the conference, and help set up the association for future success.

Some projects were started but couldn’t be finished within a year. That is why we rely on the strengths of the remaining executive board members to carry the association forward. Though my time on the board may be coming to an end, I am not going away.  There is still much that can be done from the district and committee levels to help keep our association alive and well.

As we turn 150, our challenge is to stay relevant and useful within the fire service. But that’s also our opportunity! Yes, much has changed within the association, and within the fire service, and we’re in for more changes ahead. SFFMA remains committed to supporting the fire service of Texas through training, certification, and continuing our legacy of legislative advocacy.

The Executive Board will meet later this month to discuss a three-year strategic plan to help move our association forward. Look for information and updates throughout the rest of 2026 and into 2027.  I strongly encourage our members to get involved and be part of the good things that our association is doing, and can do, for the emergency services of Texas.

I wish you safe travels to Waco and again I say thank you, for all you do for your community.

My sincere thanks for the trust and confidence you placed in me as one of your representatives in SFFMA. It’s been a heck of a ride and I’m proud to have served.

Stay safe, be well. See you soon!
