TEEX Area School Training

Extension/NFA/Area Schools

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Delivered at no cost to fire personnel in Texas, fire extension programs bring the highest quality training directly to departments and agencies across Texas. This diverse training combines classroom knowledge with hands-on training that satisfies both certification and continuing education requirements. Standard-based training such as Pro Board and the Texas Commission on Fire Protection is available, as well as National Fire Academy and State Firefighters' and Fire Marshals’ Association training courses.

Regional training managers are available to help assess and facilitate training and schools to meet individual department needs and can provide information about rural assistance program for volunteer fire departments and the grant assistance program for career fire departments. The fire extension program's goal is to provide exceptional, standard-based training to fire and emergency service personnel to protect life and property in every region throughout Texas.

Texas Division of Emergency Management

TDEM Training

The Texas Division of Emergency Management offers multiple courses at no cost to Texas firefighters and first responders. Funding is provided by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s (PHMSA) Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) Grant. Our focus is to increase State, Territorial, Tribal, and local effectiveness to safely and efficiently handle hazardous materials accidents and incidents, enhance implementation of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act of 1986 (EPCRA), and encourage a comprehensive approach to emergency training and planning by incorporating the unique challenges of responses to transportation situations. Our goal is to train every first responder to some level in the hazmat field.

What we offer:

  • 30 course topics which include Hazardous Materials, Trench Rescue,

  • Confined Space Rescue, Pipeline Emergencies, Oil Spill

  • Containment/Protection/Recovery for Inland Water, Product Control, and Air Monitoring. Many of these courses have hands-on training and practical exercises.

  • All Courses meet NFPA 1072, NFPA 472 and/or OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 standards.

  • Most of the hands-on courses can be delivered using mobile classrooms at any sized agency.

  • Several courses come with Pro Board Certifications which are included at no cost to the student.

  • Rural department students may qualify for reimbursement for lodging to attend training outside of their jurisdiction.

  • We encourage all volunteer and career Texas fire departments, especially those in rural areas to look through our course catalog for courses they might be interested in hosting at their department or sending personnel to. We hold classes all over the state throughout the year.
